What's New
The most recent me -- or a moment of clarity...
I'm a filmmaker who moonlights as a roughneck so I have to be away from my wife and kids two weeks a month. My wife got in the habit this hitch (what we call our two week stretch of work that rotates between working 12 hours during the night or 12 hours during the day for 14 straight days).

I worked nights last hitch and our rig requires us to turn in our phones with the power off before our tour (12 hour shift) begins. So every morning at 6am I would turn on my phone and wait to hear the beep letting me know a new message had arrived in my inbox.

I looked forward to these messages every morning.

The interesting part is our debut movie 'Last Summer For Boys' premiered just before my hitch so I spent days off preparing for the event and after party. Our movie premiered Friday, September 21st -- I went to work Monday night September 24th.

I am not a particular believer in light bulb moments or individual moments where individuals say that this is when I decided to do or be such and such. I personally believe those moments are a culmination of many instances that break through to clarity.

Anyway -- it had been a long 14 days of work covered in invert -- oil based mud (I look at North Dakota drilling in three phases -- surface 0-2000 ft / intermediate 2000-10,000 ft / lateral 10,000-19,500 ft). The feet may vary, but the process is essentially the same. During intermediate drilling you drill with invert to maintain your hole's stability.

Invert is a brown, oily specter that get's on everything, including every person in it's way. More than once I had words with the invert on our rig and those words were not pleasant.

Every morning I would drive back to the man camp from the rig or jump in with one of my RTMs (Rig Team Members, which is really just a technical term I use for safety paperwork). This particular morning I hopped in my rig runner and turned on my phone waiting for the beep. When it arrived I eagerly opened the message.

I'm not sure if my wife's message was the last thread that broke through to clarity or maybe those light bulb moments do exist. Either way, something happened.

The message was short, the words were simple:

Tonight Emaline (our 6 year old daughter) yelled 'I'm freezing my ass off!' in the font yard while there were snow flurries. I yanked her inside and said 'where did you hear that?!'

She cried and said 'Daddy's movie!'

As soon as I finished reading the text I thought, without hesitation, 'What if I called myself a filmmaker and not the most recent me?'

The next edit....
Upon completion of Last Summer For Boys came the great flood of 2011.

NoDak Films decided to make Special Edition DVDs contributing half the cost of each DVD sold towards the Flood Fight.

An accidental result came from using such a strategy. NoDak Films created a survey for all those who purchased a DVD encouraging, what they call in the industry, a 'focus group'. Upon completion of the movie, a DVD purchaser could go to an online document and fill out a series of questions pertaining to the integrity of the movie.

The feedback, so far, has been honest and critical and supportive.

NoDak Films is here to say, I am here to say that I have taken your feedback and will continue to edit the movie and move around scenes in order to make the movie better.

Make no mistake, I feel we made a great movie and I am very proud of Last Summer For Boys and all those who made this movie possible.

Before we hit North Dakota theaters a new version of the movie will emerge -- tighter, less confusing, while maintaining the great quality of plot, scenery and acting.

Thank you to all those who filled out a survey and for those who purchased a copy of the DVD, please check your email and fill out the survey.

Thank you

Nathan Anderson

The DVDs have arrived!
We have ourselves a real movie folks.

Don't be confused however just because our SPECIAL EDITION DVDs arrived in the mail does not mean NoDak Films is done showing this movie.

The movie industry has created a standard whereby a DVD means a movie has been promoted, advertised, marketed, put into theaters, and is now ready for the final meal ticket before the movie rests until it is re-mastered and the production company can make more money off of it.

NoDak Films took a different route. North Dakota had its worst flood in history the summer of 2011 just as NoDak Films was finishing the edit on our first film 'Last Summer For Boys'. Although our thought process was not to distribute our movie, I felt a SPECIAL EDITION DVD was in order to help the flood victims. $15 of each DVD sold goes toward the FLOOD FIGHT.

We have raised nearly $2,000 as a result, it's not going to break the bank, but we're proud of our effort.

The time is approaching where we would like to put our movie in North Dakota theaters in 2012. The goal is too have a theatrical run, which means our movie will be in a handful of North Dakota theaters at the same time for a number of weeks as opposed to a one-night special showing.

I feel our movie has the strength of plot and professionalism to successfully maintain an audience for a number of weeks at a number of North Dakota theaters. In order to successfully launch our movie NoDak Films will look for financial sponsors to help us market and advertise the movie through television, print and radio ads along with securing release dates at North Dakota movie theaters for dates to be named sometime in the winter of 2012.

We also want a kick-ass premiere and premiere party and are currently looking at dates, with the location set in Bismarck.

Thank you for supporting NoDak Films and look for us at a theater near you very soon.

I would like to personally thank along with all those who contributed to the making of 'Last Summer For Boys': Jerome Harstad, Gary Johnson, Rod & Kathy Johnson and Nathan Smith for sponsoring NoDak FIlms completion edit, which was done by Video Arts Studios in Fargo, ND.

Sincerely

Nathan Anderson, Founder & Owner
